MAGNUM – #12 / 0.35x5mm Long Taper

 

The #12 gauge (0.35mm) refers to the thickness of the individual needle. This is a standard size for magnum needles and is slightly thicker than finer needles like #10 (0.30mm). It allows for more ink to be delivered with each pass, making it ideal for efficiently packing color and creating smooth shading.

Magnum needles are arranged in a flat or stacked configuration, with two rows of needles overlapping slightly. This design increases the surface area covered with each stroke, making magnums great for larger areas of shading, color blending, and soft gradients.

The standard magnum (also known as a “flat mag”) is laid out in a straight, horizontal row, while a curved magnum has a slight arc to the needle tips, which helps with smoother transitions and reduced skin trauma when working on curved areas.
